After graduating from Alden High School in 1960, Carl attended Erie Community Technical Institute (now Erie Community College) and then Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne IN. He was an Army veteran, stationed at Fort Dix, MA. Carl worked as a structural designer with ATSI, Inc in Amherst for 27 years, working mainly in designing and inspecting steel plant complexes. Carl was most at home outdoors or in a garage working on cars and house projects. He enjoyed bicycling, running, kayaking, hiking, and exploring. He ran more 5Ks than we can count, as well as the Boston Marathon and over thirty Turkey Trots. He also volunteered his time and seemingly unending energy to his family and community. He genuinely wanted to lend a hand where he could. And so he did. Carl was involved with the Alden Historical Society, the Alden Senior Center, the Alden Town Hall. He was devoted to St. John’s Church - as head usher, eucharistic minister, head of numerous committees and as a member of the Holy Name Society. And he did it all with that big genuine and infectious smile! Please smile when you think of Carl.
