Edward H. Small Jr., 89, of Alden died early Saturday morning May 14, 2022 at home with family following a short illness. Husband to Beryl for 66 years and father of Mary (Ken) Little, Edward (Mary Jo) Small, Robert (Brenda) Small and Constance (Jeffrey) Bunger. Loving grandfather of Cicely, Eddie, Erin, Emily, Sarah, Eric, James and Ethan and loving great grandfather of Abilene. No prior visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, Alden, NY on Saturday, May 21st at 11 AM. Arrangements by the Charles Meyer Funeral Home.
Edward was a graduate of Lehigh University, Yale University and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. Following graduation from Lehigh University, he served as a USAF Civil Engineering Officer in Great Britain where he met his wife. His career as a Civil Engineer took him and his family to states from Maine to Florida. He ultimately settled his family in Alden in 1973 when he accepted the position of Director for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Committee, a position he retired from in 1997.
Edward was always active in the Alden community. He was a church member and lay reader at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church and served as their treasurer for 26 years. He was a founder of the Alden Baseball league where he coached the Alden Lions teams through the years. With his wife, he faithfully managed the Alden Marilla Community Food Pantry for almost 15 years. He was an animal lover, an avid historian, and a committed NY Yankees fan and baseball buff.
