Obituary

Sutton-Richard F. of Clarence, NY passed away in his sleep on the evening of February 5, 2021 at Brothers of Mercy Hospice in Clarence, NY. Beloved father of Richard (Tammy) Sutton of Waupaca, WI, the late Michael (Christina) Sutton of Lancaster, NY, Christopher (Michelle) Sutton of Burt, MI and Patrick (Hester) Sutton of Wilmington, DE; loving grandfather of Amanda Hartwell, Jenna, Matthew and Emma Jean Sutton, Joseph and Cierra Damm and Haley Arasim; brother to Edwin and Mary Ellen.

After graduating from St Mary's, Richard started out as a pattern-maker at Dresser Industries in Depew.  It was a job he did so well that he became the president of the pattern-makers' union there.  His skill, dedication, and hard work did not go unnoticed at Dresser, and before the plant closed its doors for good, Richard worked himself all the way up to plant superintendent.  His reputation in the field preceded him, and he later did years of consulting work until his retirement. He was also a skilled craftsman and carpenter, and actually built the house in which he and his wife raised their family.

Richard was a proud veteran and served 2 years active duty in the army during the Korean War.  He served his country honorably, and finished out his service in the reserves until he started his family.

Richard was responsible, practical, and not prone to emotion.  The love he had for his family was reflected through his deeds, rather than his words.  He taught his 4 sons to stand on their own two feet, but was always there to pick them up, if and when they fell.  And if heaven is paradise, you can bet Richard is currently there on the 18 th green, lining up his putt, in search of his next birdie.

Arrangements by the Charles Meyer Funeral Home.  Share your condolences at meyerfuneralhome.com. No prior visitation. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a date and location to be named later.
