Roger Pohl, age 81 of Darien Center, NY is finally resting after a long battle with a body less tough than himself. He was a dedicated husband to Kathy (nee O'Connor) for 58 years; father of Leann (John) Racki, Bill (Shannon) Pohl and Tim (Michelle) Pohl; grandfather of Holly, Dan (Natalie), Erica, David, Melanie (Mason) and Dylan; great-grandfather of Isabelle and Joseph. He is also survived by his sister Sharon (Manferd) Wolcott; sisters-in-law Maureen (Doug) Dills, Doreen (Richard) Carney; brothers-in-law Patrick O'Connor and Kevin (Susan) O'Connor and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Marjorie Pohl, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Harlan and Irene O'Connor and brother-in-law Robert Kielbasa. Roger, a proud Navy Veteran, served his country in Vietnam. He spent most of his career as a welder with Graham Manufacturing, Batavia, NY. He was a man of few words unless he was talking to the referees at an Alexander sporting event. Roger was loved deeply by his family and will be remembered for his strength, determination and his hard work to provide for his family over the years. His handshake was strong to the very end. His soft side has left a lasting impact on his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will do their best to carry on his legacy and tradition with birthday donuts, the "Back to School" song, blanket forts and countless hours sitting on the porch watching the world go by. No prior visitation. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held in the WNY National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Rd., Corfu, NY (AT A DATE AND TIME TO BE ANNOUNCED.) Arrangements by CHARLES MEYER FUNERAL HOME. Memorials may be made in memory of Roger to: Darien Center Chemical Fire Company, Inc. 10537 Alleghany Rd. Darien Center, NY 14040.
